There were a lot of calling stations, and a lot of timid flop players. The combination was good for me. I was able to steal a lot of flops, and when I couldn't steal I'd get paid off with my good hands. I was able to write down a lot of hands, but my diligence waned as time marched on. My initial boost came from an early confrontation with a "name" player Thomas Keller.
Blinds 50/100. He makes it 300 to go UTG, I cold call with AKs in the field. We get another caller.
He bets 500 on a KQ9 flop with two of my suit. I raise to 1500.
I bet 2500 when the turn comes with another king.
The river completes my flush and I my 5000 bet gets paid off.
Keller shows AKs, diamonds.
Surprisingly, a lot of people were showing their hands. We had a very friendly table, and there was definatly a spirit of camraderie. I spent most of the day next to Paul Esfandiary, Antonio's brother. He was a really good guy, and played very well, especially when you consider the fact that he had only taken up poker recently.
I did start to fade after the dinner break, dumping far too many chips on lame ass plays. I blew 12000 chips playing good hands badly. For example, I somehow put in 10000 preflop with AK in the 200/400 round, with another big stack. Yuck. I was able to regroup and nearly match my high chip count for the day.
More later. Now it's time to take a well deserved two day break. Hopefully I can continue to play good poker, and avoid nasty suckouts and unlucky confrontations.
